The anti-Chinese sentiment is surging rapidly in India due to the India China border disputes and coronavirus pandemic. Likewise, many OEMs are planning to move their manufacturing plants from China due to China's lethargic efforts in preventing the COVID-19 outbreak. Our Indian government has capitalized this to its fullest and has announced some great plans to attract foreign investments and to set up their manufacturing plants in our country. Apple is one of the most popular smartphone brands in the world, with a massive production facility in China. Apple has also partnered with Foxconn in India to manufacture some of the older model iPhones like iPhone 8 whereas, their flagship models are still manufactured only in their China facility.
According to some recent reports, Apple is planning to manufacture its latest budget iPhone SE smartphone in India and also to expand its Indian production facility. Apple iPhone SE is the brand's most popular as well as the most affordable smartphone with the starting price of $399. Due to GST and other import duties, Apple has priced the iPhone SE at Rs.42,500 in India, which is approx. Rs.22,000 more when compared to the US market. This situation may soon change if Apple starts to manufacture the iPhone SE in India, and Apple can save a huge chunk of money spent on import duties, where the benefits can be passed directly to the customers. Since Apple was manufacturing iPhone 8 in India, it will be much easier for them to manufacture the iPhone SE as both the smartphones share the same design language.
