The premium flagship segment is dominated by Samsung and Apple devices in recent times. Motorola who has been absent from the premium smartphone segment for a while made a comeback last year by launching its first foldable, Moto Razr.
Moto Razr was a niche product and it didn't appeal to the masses due to its extravagant price tag. Recently, Motorola unveiled the Moto Edge+, their premium flagship to rival against the biggies in the market. Let's find out what Motorola has to offer to stack up against the segment leaders.
Motorola Edge+ boasts a glass sandwich design with an aluminum frame. The smartphone comes with a 6.7" FHD+ OLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate. As the name suggests, Motorola Edge+ curves to sides and comes with the HRD10+ support for the cinematic viewing experience. Motorola has also incorporated the in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the smartphone. The smartphone is also covered by Corning's Gorilla Glass 5 to protect it from accidental scratches and drops. The edge display of the smartphone can be customized to access shortcuts or tools. The top edge of the display also has two additional touch screen buttons which can also be used as game triggers.
Motorola Edge+ is powered by Qualcomm's latest Octacore Snapdragon 865 processor, with Adreno 650 taking care of the GPU department. Since Snapdragon 865 is Qualcomm's flagship chipset, the phone can easily handle anything thrown at it without breaking a sweat. Motorola Edge+ is the first Motorola smartphone to come with 5G support.
Motorola Edge+ comes with the flagship-grade rear camera setup with the primary camera being 108 MP Samsung Isocell bright HMX sensor with f/1.8 aperture. The primary camera shoots images natively at 27 MP using pixel binning technology. The second camera is 8 MP, f/2.4 telephoto lens with up to 3X optical zoom. Both these cameras come with Optical Image Stabilization. The third camera is 16 MP, f/2.2 wide-angle lens with 117 degrees FOV and it is also capable of capturing Macro shots. In addition to these, Motorola has also included a TOF sensor for depth measurement and 3D mapping. The front camera comprises a 25 MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.
Motorola Edge+ draws its juice from a 5000 mAh battery with an 18W fast charger included in the box. Edge+ also supports 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging. In the audio department, Motorola Edge+ boasts dual stereo speakers and comes with a headphone jack.
Motorola Edge+ comes with 12 GB of DDR5 ram and 256 GB UFS 3.0 storage with no room for expansion. The smartphone is available in Smoky Sangria and Thunder Grey color options. The smartphone comes with Android 10 with few usual nifty useful features from Motorola.
The smartphone is priced at $999 (Rs. 76,191 approx.) and it will be exclusive to Verizon in the US. The Indian pricing and availability of the smartphone are yet to be announced by the brand. On the paper at least, Motorola delivered a good competition to the biggies in the premium flagship segment.
Let's see how Motorola is going to price this smartphone in India. Stay tuned, we will be coming up with the full review once we get our hands on Motorola's latest flagship.
