YouTube catches the UPI fever

YouTube is the largest video sharing platform in the world. YouTube, in its recent update, added UPI as a new platform of payment for YouTube music and Youtube premium subscriptions in India. Using the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) option, users can directly pay money from their bank account for the premium subscription. Previously, users were able to opt for the premium subscription using a credit card, debit card, or Google play balance.

With this latest update, users can make payment for YouTube premium and Youtube music subscriptions from UPI apps like BHIM, Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and Amazon Pay.

YouTube users can opt for the YouTube premium prepaid subscription at Rs.139 per month or a quarterly subscription at Rs. 399. With YouTube premium subscription, users can watch videos uninterrupted by ads, play videos in the background, unlimited video downloads. In addition to these, users will also get YouTube Music Premium for free. Using the UPI payment method, users can also buy and rent movies from YouTube. Users can also opt for YouTube music premium subscriptions alone at Rs.99 per month.

Initially, YouTube allowed users to pay for channel subscriptions using UPI but, within a week, YouTube decided to change its mind. Now users must settle for payment options like credit or debit cards to make payment for the channel subscription.
